How to Keep Your Feet Fresh, Comfortable & Summer-Proof All Season Long

Summer is the season of bare feet, beach walks, and sunshine, but it’s also when your feet work the hardest.

Heat, sweat, friction, and sun exposure can quickly turn healthy feet into dry, sore, or irritated ones.

Here’s how to keep them comfortable and confident from now through January.

Beat the Heat & Sweat

Warm weather means perspiration, and damp feet are a breeding ground for odour and infection.

  • Choose breathable footwear (leather or mesh).
  • Rotate shoes daily to let them dry out.
  • Use antifungal powder or spray if prone to odour or athlete’s foot.
  • Cotton or bamboo socks wick moisture better than synthetics.

Avoid Sandals Soreness

Flip-flops and slides may feel freeing but offer little support. Hours of walking in them can trigger heel pain or arch fatigue.

Opt for sandals with supportive soles, cushioned straps, or orthotic-friendly designs.
Your feet will thank you at the end of a long market or beach day.

Don’t Forget Sunscreen, Feet Burn Too!

The tops of your feet are often the first to burn and blister.

Apply SPF 50+ before heading outdoors, especially when wearing sandals or going barefoot on hot sand.

Reapply after swimming, or every two hours.

Moisturise Nightly (But Skip Between Toes)

  • Saltwater, chlorine, and sun exposure dry out skin fast.
  • Apply a heel balm or light foot cream before bed to lock in hydration.
  • Avoid between the toes, that area needs to stay dry to prevent fungus.

Keep Feet Clean & Check Them Often

  • A daily rinse removes sweat, sand, and sunscreen build-up.
  • Inspect for redness, cracks, or blisters. Tiny injuries can worsen quickly in warm weather.
  • If you have diabetes, check daily and book your annual podiatry review if it’s due.
