Last Tuesday evening we had the pleasure of joining the Hupai Kumeu Lions Club for one of their regular dinner meetings, and what a fantastic night it was. It was lovely to spend time with their members, share a meal, and talk about something we’re all passionate about, supporting the health and wellbeing of our local community.
We met a wonderful group of people who are doing an incredible job behind the scenes raising funds and supporting a wide range of local initiatives. It was clear how committed the Lions are to helping those in need and strengthening the community, and we felt very grateful to be invited along to share a little about what we do at Norwest Podiatry.
One of the key topics of the evening was foot health and diabetes, an area that is particularly close to the Lions’ heart given their strong support of Diabetes NZ and community health initiatives. We had some great conversations around how important preventative foot care is for people living with diabetes, and how early podiatry intervention can help prevent complications, maintain mobility and support independence.
Our team spoke about common foot concerns we see locally, how circulation and sensation in the feet can change with age and diabetes, and how regular podiatry care plays an important role in keeping people active and well. It was encouraging to see how engaged everyone was, with lots of thoughtful questions and discussion throughout the evening.
What stood out most was how aligned our values are. At Norwest Podiatry, we’re passionate about education, prevention and supporting people to stay mobile and independent for as long as possible. The Lions share that same commitment to community wellbeing and supporting those who need a helping hand.
It was clear that there are many ways we can continue working alongside groups like the Lions, whether that’s through raising awareness about foot health, supporting people living with diabetes, or helping connect community members with the right care at the right time.
We’d like to say a big thank you to Jack and the Huapai Kumeu Lions Club for welcoming us so warmly. It was a genuinely enjoyable evening, and we loved meeting so many of your members and hearing about the incredible work you’re doing in our area.
We look forward to staying connected and continuing to support our community together.
If you’re part of a local organisation, club or community group and would like us to visit and talk about foot health, diabetes care or injury prevention, we’re always happy to come along.
