Minor Surgical procedure performed by our experienced Podiatrists in West Auckland to permanently fix recurring ingrown toenails.
At Norwest Podiatry, we offer Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) surgery as an effective and long term solution for painful ingrown toenails. PNA surgery removes only the ingrown edge of the nail while leaving the rest intact. A medical chemical might be applied to stop regrowth, giving a permanent solution for recurring or severe ingrown toenails.
PNA is performed under local anaesthetic in our West Auckland clinic and can take from 45 – 90 minutes depending on our many nails affected. It’s a walk out procedure with minimal downtime.
No, local anaesthetic ensures you won’t feel the procedure. You may have mild tenderness after. To manage the discomfort, it is recommended to take 1 paracetamol 1 hour before the surgery
As only the ingrown toenail edge is removed, the nail should still retain its natural look.
The chemical applied is 90% effective at preventing regrowth.
Yes, provided your circulation is adequate, we take extra precautions to ensure safe healing.
